Iraqi Defender Zaid Tahseen Begins a New Chapter at Pakhtakor

 

One of Iraq’s most promising defenders, Zaid Tahseen, has opened a new chapter in his career. Born on January 29, 2001, in Najaf, the young centre-back has risen through local clubs to now represent one of Central Asia’s most prestigious teams, Pakhtakor Tashkent.

Tahseen began his career at Al-Najaf, before moving on to Naft Al-Wasat and later Al-Talaba. At Al-Talaba, he quickly became a key figure and even earned the captain’s armband, showcasing not only his defensive strength but also his leadership qualities. In the 2024–2025 season, he joined Al Quwa Al Jawiya, before making a significant move in July 2025 to Pakhtakor. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at €500,000.

On the international stage, Tahseen made his debut for the Iraq national team on September 26, 2022, in a friendly against Syria. In 2023, he lifted the WAFF U-23 Championship with Iraq’s U23 team and helped secure third place in the AFC U23 Asian Cup, which qualified the team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He captained Iraq during the Olympic Games, further cementing his status as a leader.

So far, the defender has collected 16 senior international caps for Iraq, impressing with his composure, aerial ability, and tactical awareness. His performances at Pakhtakor have also drawn praise, showing his adaptability in different leagues.

At just 24 years old, Zaid Tahseen has already built an impressive résumé. With his blend of strength, intelligence, and leadership, he is not only seen as one of Iraq’s brightest defensive talents but also as a player who could soon attract interest from European clubs.
